New tensioning pulley is different from the old one

New tensioning pulley is different from the old one and can’t be tensioned. Timing belt kit CT1168K1/ WP1/ WP2 for Audi, Seat, Skoda and VW. Various models of 1.4 – 2.0 TDI common rail, EA288

Fig 1

Problem:

The supplied tensioning pulley V56390 looks different from the one installed in the vehicle. It obviously cannot be tensioned in the way described in the fitting instructions.

Cause:

The vehicle manufacturer uses two different designs of pulley. The Continental kit may have either of these variants. Fig. 2 A = made by Gates B = made by Litens

Solution:

The difference is in the tensioning pulley’s adjusting cam. With the Gates design (A), there is no need to fasten it with the locking tool T10265. Otherwise, the tensioning procedure is identical.
