WAI offers best practice advice on wiper motor failures

WAI Europe is highlighting the importance of using high quality parts such as its advanced range of wiper motors, engineered to ensure safety and visibility in all weather conditions.

As temperatures continue to drop and Ireland battles snow and storms, WAI is urging technicians to prioritise wiper motor care. With high-quality products and expert guidance, WAI is helping technicians and drivers prepare for the challenges of winter weather.

Designed to exceed OE specifications, WAI’s wiper motors are built with precision and rigorously tested to withstand the toughest conditions.

Richard Welland, chief commercial officer (global) at WAI Europe commented: “At WAI, quality control is more than just meeting standards; it’s about engineering products that truly perform and stand the test of time.”

WAI says it is committed to equipping garages and workshops with the tools and knowledge needed to maximise the longevity of wiper motors and ensure road safety. Alongside its premium quality products, WAI has issued its latest best practice advice for technicians to address common wiper motor issues.

WAI’s top tips include firstly, if you hear a grinding noise, the wiper motor arms may be too tight, causing strain on the motor. Adjust the tension of the wiper arms to ease the strain and prevent further damage. Secondly, grease buildup on the windshield or wiper blades can cause skipping and chattering. To combat this, clean the blades and windshield regularly with a high-quality glass cleaner for smoother operation.

The third piece of advice is misaligned, or loose wiper arms can disrupt system synchronisation. Technicians should properly align the arms and tighten the pivot nuts at the base. Fourth tip; corrosion or loose wires can lead to connection / electrical issues. The solution is to inspect all connections, clean any corrosion, and ensure that connectors are secure.

Finally, debris in the wiper linkage can force the motor to work harder than necessary. WAI’s advice is to regularly clear any obstructions to ensure smooth linkage movement.

WAI’s wiper motors set a benchmark for reliability and sustainability. Certified to ISO 9001, TS 16949, and ISO 14001 standards, these products reflect the company’s dedication to quality, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Whether it’s rain, snow, or sleet, WAI’s wiper motors are designed to keep drivers safe on the road this winter and into spring.

Welland added: “Our wiper motors are winter-ready. With the right care and maintenance, technicians and drivers alike can ensure peak performance, no matter the weather conditions.”
