VAG 1.6 & 2.0 TDi Water pump

The popular 1.6 and 2.0 litre TDi engine, which is fitted to many Volkswagen, Audi group vehicles, has a thermal management system that is designed to shorten the warm-up phase after a cold start and channel the heat produced by the engine, to where it can be utilised to improve vehicle efficiency. In this video, we are looking at the switchable water pump, which has been found to have many issues causing the engine to overheat. This can be due to a seized coolant control collar, bearing failure and impeller damage.
